The Klez Katz are dedicated to the preservation and encouragement of the rich musical heritage of the Yiddish diaspora. Their repertoire encompasses freilach, bulgar, sher, terkishe, khosidl, theater music, folk songs and even the odd klezmer-influenced jazz tune, performed on tenor and soprano saxes, trombone, flute, accordion and vocals. Perfect for parties and special events, concerts, dances and incidental music, the Klez Katz are klezmorim ready to play!
Four (or more) fun-loving hard (and soft) blowing klezmer musicians comprise The Klez Katz, ready to set off a musical fireworks show at your next special occasion. They play the varied and evocative music of the Jews of Eastern Europe: Joyous freylachs and shers, lilting waltzes, mysterious terkishes and bulgars, and gypsy and Middle-Eastern influenced pieces. Their repertoire also includes a variety of other material: Israeli folksongs and dances, show tunes from the American Yiddish theater and modern pieces by contemporary klezmer masters, plus a selection of American jazz and swing standards, suitable for listening or dancing.
The Klez Katz have been featured at numerous events, including:
and assorted weddings, birthday parties, bar and bat mitzvahs and synagogue celebrations. They are also available for concerts, dances and parties, and conduct educational workshops teaching the histories and techniques of the many types of music they play.
